The lecture will explain XML with a special view on E-Commerce and accompanying practices. The following topics will be covered:
  • Basics: XML, Namespaces
  • Syntax: Schemas
  • Presentation: XSL, XPath, FO
  • XML Programming in Java: DOM, SAX, Digester
  • Higher E-Commerce standards: ebXML, SOAP et al, RDF/OWL

Small projects at the end (Programming, design or literature oriented).
  • Overview and comparison of XQuery and SQLX
  • Specific standards/specifications/applications:
    • XForms
    • XQuery
    • XML key management
    • SMIL
    • RSS
    • SVG
    • VoiceXML (subsets only)
    • OpenDocument (general overview or specific subparts)
  • Your own theme (please contact teacher)!
